Delve in to the world of fly fishing over at Lake Vrynwy, on local lakes or in the River Tanat in the grounds of The Hall

Fishing in the River Tanat, right on our doorstep.

Fishing with the Ghillie

If you have ever thought that fly fishing was a mysterious art that you would never master, you will enjoy the experience of meeting and spending time with John Davies, our local ghillie.

Whether it is the first time you have picked up a rod or you are a professional fly fisherman John will be able to teach at any level. Beginners courses can be taught at nearby lakes such as Ellerdine or for a truly memorable day go with John to Lake Vyrnwy and fish from a boat on the lake. More experienced anglers can take advantage of the River Tanat running through our grounds which provides a moderate challenge.

John can provide any equipment, rods, reels & lines. Also should you want to discuss fishing in different weathers and seasons or just pinch one of his many recipes that he has come up with for trout it is all included in the session.

John holds the 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2005 Troutmaster Angler of the Year Award, currently holding the record for the most times the same person has won this award.

If you wish to take part in an activity with the Ghillie or if you wish to fish on our grounds at the Hall you will need to hold a current Fishing Rod Licence and have this available with you when you arrive.  For more information on this please look on www.environment-agency.gov.uk.
